A Sea of American Cookbooks

My friend, John Desmond brought to my attention a very interesting website, Feeding America, which is an on-line library of historic American cookbooks assembled by the University of Michigan. It begins with Amelia Simmons's book, which I have previously written about, and proceeds with a number of other American cookbooks written and published through the 19th and 20th centuries.

Although the last 200 years is not my favorite period of historic interest, these works make a fascinating read, and I commend them to the attention of those curious about the evolution of American food.
